The British Society for Rheumatology Annual Conference 2026 (BSR 2026) brought together clinicians and researchers from across the UK and beyond to share the latest advances in rheumatology. The meeting featured a wide-ranging programme covering clinical practice, translational research, and emerging insights into autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
The Juvenile Dermatomyositis Cohort and Biomarker Study (JDCBS) was strongly represented throughout the conference, with four presentations highlighting research supported by the cohort.
Dr Liza McCann presented “Juvenile and adolescent onset myositis: Challenges and what do we need to know?”, focusing on key clinical challenges and priorities in managing young patients. Dr Meredyth G L Wilkinson explored novel therapeutic directions in “Targeting mitochondria & inflammation in JDM”. Dr Laura Scagnellato addressed important unmet needs in “Gaps in childhood-onset and adult myositis with overlap”. Finally, Dr Lucy Wedderburn presented “How can molecular studies explain overlap syndromes?”, offering perspectives on the role of molecular research in this area.
These contributions demonstrate the significant role of JDCBS in supporting research across the spectrum of juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, and its continued impact within the rheumatology research community.
