The 2025 FOCIS (Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies) European Advanced Course and Conference on Immunology, held from October 20–24, 2025, at the University of Rouen Normandy, Faculty of Health, brought together participants from across Europe for an inspiring week of cutting-edge lectures, interactive discussions, and scientific exchange, focused on the latest advances in immunology and immunopathology.

This year’s program featured renowned international experts in clinical immunology, who offered deep insights into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of immune function and disease through a dynamic combination of lectures, scientific seminars, and hands-on workshops.

In addition, selected junior researchers had the opportunity to present their abstracts and engage with senior scientists, fostering rich academic exchange, mentorship, and collaboration throughout the course.

Mr Aris Syntakas, UCL PhD Student and member of the JDCBS research group, attended the event and has been awarded the AFM abstract award for his work titled  “Unravelling the Role of Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Treatment-Naïve Juvenile Dermatomyositis Muscle using Spatial Transcriptomics“.

Attending this course was an incredible opportunity to not only learn about the latest concepts in immunology from experts in the field but also to network in such a friendly and collaborative environment. The chance to discuss my work and exchange ideas with both senior leaders and fellow students from across Europe was invaluable for my development as a researcher.
